Perhaps you have never heard of this supplement to the US Census, or been the recipient of the governments strong arming and Nazi style profiling tactics associated with gathering of data designed from "randomly selected" addresses selected each month for the American Community Survey...
"The American Community Survey collects information about various topics like education, housing and jobs. Information from this survey is used by federal state, local and tribal governments to meet the needs of communities across America."
http://www.census.gov/acs/www/
So, what... it's just a random census, right? No big deal.
It may be random but compliance is mandatory according to the census bureau, with threats of fines for not returning the survey, or for each unanswered question. In just a couple days I've read enough horror stories to know what I personally am in for if I do not complete the survey, or fully complete it. Letters, phone calls, reps parking in wait, verbal intimidation, some even trying to strong arm their way into people's houses. That's the normal course from what I've read.
Now, why would people not want to just give the government what they ask for and leave it at that?
Before I list the general questions keep in mind this is data claimed to be intended for things like projecting population for future building of schools, highways, transportation systems funding...etc, etc..
Imagine the multitude of applications such personal information (see nature of questions to follow) identified to a "street address" would have in the hands of an identity thief, hacker, scammer, terrorist org, or just plain old thief (let alone "the government") with some of the following information, especially that of elderly, disabled and other vulnerable citizens...
Why should they (CB) care how many times I've been married in my lifetime, whether I can get up and down the stairs without a problem, the exact time I leave for work in the morning, how much time I took off from work, or whether I am mentally capable of making my own decisions? ... among other things.
First from a brochure included.. Frequently Asked Questions

There has never been a big public uproar because it's sent to small "targeted" segments of the population at a time and when a stand is made the local government or state reps do nothing to address the issue. Plus there is a rapid response system in place to black out and censor any negative press this survey gets. So, if this post mysteriously disappears in the near future, don't be too suprised.
World Net Daily has a few articles on this, and there are a few discussion sites blogs where you can read the personal testimonies of unhappy recipients of the American Community Survey over the past few years and their stories of trial and travail. For the young and strong it's easy to take a stand and endure the persecution and harrasment for ninety days, but for the sick and elderly it's not hard to see how they can be strong armed into compliance whether it's against their will or not.
With the 2010 census on the radar, government ownership and the help of groups like ACORN to ensure "compliance" many people in this nation may be in for one big and unhappy surprise. The American Community Survey is the writing that's been on the wall for the past few years, but only a select group of "randomly" selected citizens have been "priviledged" to see. As for social re-engineering, we ain't seen nothing yet!
